Hawaii County Police advised at noon that a motorcycle crash closed Akoni Pule Highway, Highway 270. The highway reopened shortly after 2 p.m.
The accident was between the 27 and 28 Mile Markers on Akoni Pule Highway, north of Kawaihae. Akoni Pule Highway goes between Kawaihae and Hawi.
An alternate route for getting between Hawi and Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway is to use Kohala Mountain Road, which goes directly from Hawi over the mountain to Waimea, then go down towards the ocean towards Kawaihae.
Police provided no additional information about the crash. They closed the road to complete their investigation into the crash, which is presumed to be serious.
