Fourth Hike Against Hunger Starts November 3

Will Zucker is hiking against hunger.   Zucker, sales manager at Mahalo Broadcasting (LAVA 105.3fm/KKOA 107.7 fm/KHNU 620 am), will walk the 126 miles  from Hilo up the Hamakua Coast, through Waimea and Waikoloa to Kona, to raise awareness of the need for donations to Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank.   Zucker says his goal for this year’s Hike Against Hunger is 110,000 pounds of food, or the equivalent, donated at KTA stores around the island during his hike.  But he says he really hopes to get to 150,000.  In his 2011 Hike Against…

The Kealakehe Intermediate School Chorus and Ukulele Ensemble will appear at the Kailua-Kona Library on Saturday, October 27, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. The group’s leader is longtime Kona music teacher and musician Gloria Juan-Tapaatoutai.  The group has performed throughout the island and state, and recently toured Los Angeles where they performed at Disneyland and the Crystal Cathederal in Orange County. The University of Hawaii will offer free recycling of electronic waste from October 25 to October 27.  Residents may recycle old televisions, computers, and other electronic devices at University of Hawaii at Hilo and at Kealakehe High School from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00  p.m. each day. Aloha Performing Arts Company will hold open auditions for volunteer actors for its December production of “A Christmas Carol” on Sunday October 14 at 5:30 p.m. and Monday October 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. Anyone interested in doing the Kona Underpants Run needs to be at Pacific Vibrations on Likana Lane, right across from Hulihee Palace, by 8 a.m. Thursday.  The best thing is to arrive around 7:30 to have time to make a charitable donation to the event.
