The public is invited to a moderated candidate forum for County Council, West Hawaii Districts, on Monday, July 23, at 6 p.m., at Kealakehe High School Cafeteria.
Those taking part in the forum are County Council Candidates for Council District 6 (South Kona-Ka’u and Volcano; Brenda Ford, Maile David, Bradley Westervelt, and Lee Mcintosh), District 7 (Kainaliu to Kailua Village; Dru Kanuha), and District 8 (North Kona; Karen Eoff and Charles Guccione).
The Kealakehe High Yearbook team will sell food starting at 5:15, to help produce the school yearbook.
Sherry Bracken (LAVA 105, KKOA, Hawaii Public Radio) will moderate the forums, which are sponsored by the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, the Kohala Coast Resort Association, the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors, Rotary of Kona, West Hawaii Today, LAVA 105.3 fm/Mahalo Broadcasting, the online news web site hawaii247.com, and Kealakehe High.
The League of Women Voters will have absentee ballot applications at the forum. Anybody wishing to apply for an absentee ballot must apply by August 4. The Primary, which can decide County Council, County Prosecutor, and Mayor races if any candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, is Saturday, August 11. “Walk in” absentee voting goes from July 30 through August 9.
The forum will be carried live on the radio on LAVA 105.3 fm starting at 6 p.m., and will be broadcast on KLEI TV Channel 6 on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings following the forum, at 7 p.m.. Big Island Video News will capture the forum and have parts of it on their web site, www.bigislandvideonews.com. Na Leo ‘O Hawaii Public Access Television will also film for later broadcast.
