The Hawaii County Elections Office in Hilo is closed today, Monday, July 23.   They are not answering the telephone–it rings with no explanation that they are closed.   However, there is a note on the door that explains that they are being audited.

The Kona office is answering its phone, even though it is typically only staffed one day a week, on Wednesdays.  The employee there said the Kona office is taking care of answering inquiries for Hilo, and was not at liberty to reveal why the Hilo office was closed.

County Auditor Colleen Schrandt said Monday, in response to an inquiry, that her office is not doing an audit of the County Elections Office at this time.

The State Elections Office said they received an email today stating the County Elections Office in Hilo would be closed for auditing, with no stated reason for the audit and no information on when the office would reopen.
