Hawaii County Fire and Rescue teams were called into action Monday around 12:45 p.m.  A 48-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were searching for maile in the Ola’a Forest Reserve and got lost.   They were unfamiliar with the area and wandered off the trail.

Chopper 1 flew up from Hilo, located the couple, and airlifted them to the Volcano Transfer Station.  They did not require medical attention.

The whole operation, which took around 2 hours, involved 7 vehicles (including Chopper 1) and 12 Hawaii Fire Department personnel.
