Hawaii County Fire Department crews were called to a fire in a single family residence at 10 Manaolana Place  just off Wainuenue Avenue in Hilo Friday evening just after 7:15 p.m.  They say when they arrived the fire was spreading from the garage to the two-story residence, and was around 60% involved.

They were able to stop the fire from advancing any further into the 4,000-square-foot residence.  Firefighters estimated the damage at around $250,000.   The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross also responded to the scene to offer assistance to the residents, which included 8 adults and 3 children.

According to Zillow.com, the home has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and would be valued at around $275,000 if it were for sale, based on current real estate prices.
