Former Governor Ben Cayetano has been hospitalized for a bleeding ulcer.
Cayetano is one of three contenders for the job of Honolulu Mayor. His wife Vicky said Monday that the illness would not deter the former Governor in his campaign. He will undergo surgery to fix the problem and will likely be released from Queen’s Medical Center Wednesday.
Opponents have been waging a very negative campaign against Cayetano, who is campaigning against the Honolulu rail project.
Cayetano, 72, suffered once before from a bleeding ulcer, in 1997.
