Police issued an alert at 4:25 p.m. for motorists to be cautious when driving on Highway 19 around the Hamakua Coast and Waimea, especially between Lakeland and Mana Road. Heavy rain is expected until around 8:30 p.m. and there is already ponding and heavy runoff on the road. Traffic is heavy and slow because of the rain, which has been falling for several hours.
