U. S. Army Garrison-PTA Command will open portions of the training area at Pohakuloa Training Area to local archery hunters this weekend, December 31 and January 1-2, in a continuing conservation initiative to control the wild hog, goat and sheep population in PTA conservation areas.

Passes and hunting flyers will be available at designated check-in stations beginning December 30 after 5 p.m.

The Kilohana check-in/check-out station is relocated between mile marker 43 and 44 on Saddle Road.  The Huluhulu check-in/check-out station is located across from the Mauna Kea and Saddle Road junction, near mile marker 28.

Check-in time for PTA hunting is at 5 a.m.  Check-in stations will be monitored by State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources personnel.  No early access to hunting areas will be allowed.

Archery mammal hunting is allowed in training areas 1-4, 12, 14 and 15.

No firearms, ATVs, dirt bikes or any recreational vehicles will be allowed with the temporary access.  Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the training or hunting areas.

Big Island hunters are being encouraged to monitor the PTA Hunter’s Hotline at 969-3474 or click on the following link http://www.garrison.hawaii.army.mil/pta/default.htm.
