It’s Winter Atop Our Mountains!

February 19, 2012
By

The Mauna Kea Visitor Information Center reports that as of 5 a.m. Sunday, February 19, it’s snowing down to the 10,500 foot elevation on Mauna Kea.  The Mauna Kea Access Road is closed to the public at the Visitor Information Station gate.  There is also lightning at the Visitor Information Station.

The VIS update says they will plow the summit roads starting later this morning.   The temperature currently is around 0 degrees Fahrenheit, but there is a 9 mile wind making it feel even colder.

It’s also around 0 degrees Fahrenheit atop Mauna Loa.
