Kurtistown Fire Destroys Dwelling Wednesday Night

Wednesday evening, firefighters were called to a blaze around 7:15 p.m. on Kea Road  in Hawaiian Acres Subdivision in Kurtistown.

Firefighters found a 900 square foot single family dwelling fully engulfed in flames.  The  building was vacant with 3 abandoned vehicles on premises.  A power line de-energized by HELCO personnel.

Fire personnel worked on knocking down the fire on the south side of the building, working around to the north.  They brought the fire under control using a tanker and two engines.

Hawaii Police Department was on scene rerouting traffic to Koloa Moali Rd,

Firefighters had the fire out around 8:30 p.m.  They estimated damage at around $120,000.
