The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is sponsoring a 115-mile bike ride taking place today, Saturday, and tomorrow, Sunday, August 5, on the west side of Hawaii Island. The event will raise funds for the battle against MS, as each rider has raised or is raising funds to donate as part of their ride.
On Saturday at 7 a.m., bikers are leaving Anaeho’omalu Bay in the Waikoloa Resort area and riding out to Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, going north up to Akoni Pule Highway to Hawi and Kapa’au, and then returning. The first day’s bike ride will cover 65 miles and should be done by around 1 p.m.
On Sunday at 7 a.m., bikers will leave Anaeho’omalu Bay and ride south on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway to Kailua town, turning right onto Makala Boulevard, and then returning to Waikoloa Resort the same way. On Sunday the bikers will cover 50 miles, and are expected to finish around 1 p.m.
Motorists are advised to be on the lookout for the riders.
