The Pink Martinis Senior Women’s 3.5 tennis team completed their season Saturday, February 4, with a win over the Hana Hou team out of Holua Tennis Center, clinching the West Hawaii championship. The Pink Martinis play out of the Island Slice Tennis Club at Keauhou Beach Resort. Other teams in the 3.5 league were the Keauhou Bruisers and Game Set and Match, also out of Holua.
The team will represent West Hawaii at the State Championships, also called Sectionals, on Maui in mid May. In addition to the women’s 3.5 team, there will also be Hawaii Island teams from East Hawaii and West Hawaii in both men’s and women’s leagues at 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5. Teams from Maui, Kaua’i, and Oahu will also take part in the Sectionals.
The Pink Martinis include Peggy Chestnut, Debbie Downes, Sherry Bracken, Melany Kerver, Peggy Spencer, Janet Howard, June Taguma, Jane Galante, and Molly Nakano. There are also two non-playing members, both recovering from injuries, Lily Acoba and Margaret Kearns. Their coach is Matt Johnson, one of two pros at Island Slice at Keauhou Beach Resort.
