Hawaiian Electric Light Company says Hamakua Energy Partners tripped offline at 6:21 p.m. Tuesday evening. Power outages affected around 5,734 customers in Waimea, Kawaihae, Waikoloa, and Kona until power was restore at 6:38 p.m.
Hamakua Energy Partners in an independent power producer with a 60-megawatt steam turbine power plant in Honoka’a, using naptha, a petroleum distillate, as its primary fuel source. They sell the energy to HELCO.
