PATH Fun Run Coming Sunday

Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii presents the 27th Annual PATH Run on Sunday, October 7 at 7:30 a.m. with the Start and Finish at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive.   The PATH Run offers a 5 km walk/run, a 10 km run and a free keiki dash. Lions Club Vision Charity Walk Set for September 30

The West Hawaii Lions Club consisting of the Hamakua, Waimea, Waikoloa, Kohala, Kaloko Branch, Kailua Kona, and Lions Club of Kona will be holding a charity walk- Walk for Vision and Hearing” to benefit the Hawaii Lions Foundation.   The Hawaii Lions Foundation, is the non-profit arm of Hawaii Lions. One of their programs, includes the “Uninsured/Underinsured” hearing and vision program for Hawaii school children. New Pedestrian Program Starts in Kailua Village

Kailua Village Business Improvement District has been working to enhance public spaces including walkability in and around Historic Kailua Village. With the uptick evident in general business growth, there is also a related increase in pedestrians and motorists.   As part of a pilot program to promote pedestrian safety, Kailua Village Business Improvement District (KVBID) is partnering with the Hawaii County Department of Public Works to implement PedFlags (pedestrian flags). Ironman Road Closures Continue

 Ironman Triathlon World Championship is Saturday, but road closues started Thursday for roads right in Kailua Village.  Through Saturday, roads throughout West Hawaii will be closed or restricted, as far north as Hawi, so residents and visitors should plan accordingly.  The police and Ironman officials’ goal is to keep all the race competitors and drivers safe; road closures facilitate that. California Man Dies in West Hawaii Bike Crash

From Hawaii Police Department: A California man has died from injuries sustained when he fell off his bicycle. On July 14, Kona patrol officers responded to a 1:18 a.m. report of a crashing sound on the 75-6100 block of Alii Drive and found a man lying next to a bicycle. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Anthony Hernandez of Simi Valley, California, had been riding the bike when he lost control, fell and struck his head on the pavement. He was not wearing a helmet. Fire-rescue personnel took him to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition…
