“The Toxic Avenger” is at Aloha–And It’s Great!

Note:  This is not a news story, but opinion by the writer. Have you ever heard of the musical stage play, “The Toxic Avenger”?  Me neither.  But it’s playing in Kona at the Aloha Theater.   I have more on the play and its history, but let me bottom line this now:  “The Toxic Avenger” is a “must see.”  It is well written and tight, has great rock and roll music with terrific lyrics, a good plot…and fabulous actors.   It has a fast-paced story and the actors bring it to life with energy and wonderful singing…

A Chorus Line: A Singular Sensation

A Chorus Line: A Singular Sensation

This review was written by local resident Tina Owens: Aloha Performing Arts Company’s   opening night of the Broadway musical “A Chorus Line” proved to be a singular sensation.  The cast of local talent really stretched themselves and their abilities to learn the extremely complicated script, songs and, of course, the dancing.  The entire first half of the show is one seamless flow of comedy, pathos and action, with each member of the rather large ensemble cast contributing to the intricate interweaving of stories. I enjoyed this show especially because every lyric and every line was…

“The Tempest” Final Two Performances This Weekend at Aloha

May 10, 2012
By

“The Tempest,” a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s final play, closes this weekend at The Aloha Theater in Kainaliu.  There will be performances Friday and Saturday at 7:30. Jerry Tracy, Artistic Director of Aloha Performing Arts Company, takes the stage in the lead role of Prospero.  Tracy is particularly adept at Shakespeare–what for some would be unfamiliar phrases roll off his tongue, and bring the play to life.  He’s supported by a team of actors all of whom rise to the occasion to bring the humor and drama of the story to life.  The sets and…

Tracy Rocks in The Tempest

Tracy Rocks in The Tempest

Commentary by Jay Kopelman and Sherry Bracken: Jerry Tracy is absolutely marvelous as Prospero in what is thought to be Shakespeare’s final play, “The Tempest,” now on stage at the Aloha Theater.  The Shakespearean prose rolls off his tongue, with words that might not come naturally to others just flowing from Tracy….and making sense.  He brings humor, emotion and dignity to the role. “The Tempest” is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s original play.  Director Susie Burke, who teaches and directs in Los Angeles,  has shortened it and simplified the plot. The story is set on an…
