Police Charge Volcano Woman with Homicide

Big Island police have charged a 40-year-old Volcano woman who was arrested after a hit-and-run vehicle-bicycle crash in Hilo on Wednesday (April 11). Alison E. Taylor was charged at 12:05 a.m. Friday (April 13) with negligent homicide, accident involving death or serious injury, failure to provide information or render aid, driving with a suspended license and inattention to driving. Her bail was set at $8,500. She remained at the Hilo police cellblock until her initial court appearance later Friday.

From Hawaii Police Department: A Kona man has been charged with robbery and drug charges following an encounter early Wednesday (April 11) in Kailua-Kona. At 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Kona patrol officers responded to a parking lot in the Hanama Place shopping area. A 43-year-old Kailua-Kona man with no permanent address reported that he had been sleeping outside a business building when he woke up to find an acquaintance forcibly removing money from his pants pocket. Police Identify 17-Year-Old Drowning Victim

From Hawaii Police Department: Police have identified the 17-year-old victim of a possible drowning reported in Puna. He has been identified as John Joel Nicholas Buentipo of Keaau. On Saturday (April 7) at about 7:25 a.m., Buentipo’s body was recovered by Hawaii Fire Department personnel and was transported to the Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m. On Friday (April 6) 2012 at about 1:34 p.m., Buentipo was reportedly with friends who were swimming near Shipman Beach in Keaau when he experienced difficulties in the water and was unable to swim…

One Way Traffic in Hilo for Easter Weekend, Merrie Monarch

Hawaii Police Department has announced a change in traffic patterns from April 6 through 8, for Easter services at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, and later in the week because of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival. From Hawaii Police Department: In observance of 2011 Easter season activities at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hilo, there will be a temporary one-way traffic pattern on Kapi’olani Street. Traffic will be allowed only in the Puna, or southerly, direction on Kapi’olani Street, between Wai?nuenue Avenue and Haili Street during certain hours. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have charged a Puna man who was arrested Wednesday (April 6) for a stabbing on March 25 at Glenwood Park. At 3:05 p.m. Friday (April 8), detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section charged 50-year-old Richard Broyles with first-degree assault and attempted second-degree murder. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $250,000 bail.   He was the subject of a manhunt on the island before being arrested.

Kohala Man Charged with Meth Trafficking

From Hawaii Police Department: A North Kohala man has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking and other offenses. On Friday (April 1), officers from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant at the Kapa’au home of 58-year-old Kenneth Tomomitsu. Officers recovered 94.7 grams of packaged methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia, including digital scales and associated paraphernalia. They also recovered $10,920 in cash for forfeiture. Tomomitsu was arrested and charged with first-degree meth trafficking, second-degree meth trafficking, second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. 52-Year-Old Opihi Picker Dies

HPD- A 52-year-old Kailua-Kona man has died after being found unresponsive Friday (April 1) in waters off of the Kona Coast. The victim has been identified as George Nalimu. Kona patrol officers who responded learned that the victim’s body had been found floating face down by a dive boat at approximately 10:15 a.m., and approximately 100 yards from the shoreline outside of Pawai Bay fronting Queen Lili‘uokalani Children’s Center.
