Lincoln Ashida To Run for County Prosecutor

Hawaii County Corporation Counsel Lincoln Ashida, who currently represents civil cases for Hawaii County and the Mayor and Hawaii County Council in their official duties, has announced he will run for the elective position of County Prosecutor. Current Acting Prosecutor Charlene Iboshi said some time ago she would not run.  She took over the position when Prosecutor Jay Kimura, who held the position for 30 years, retired last July.  The County Charter provided for the First Deputy–Iboshi–to take the job until the next election. Council Adds Friday Special Meet

Hawaii County Council Chair Dominic Yagong has announced a special County Council meeting for this Friday,  June 24.  The meeting will be at 9 a.m. at the Hilo County Council Chambers, with videoconferencing at the Waimea and West Hawaii Civic Center County Council offices.  Yagong said the purpose of the meeting is to authorize the County Council to hire an outside attorney to determine whether Hawaii County Corporation Counsel Lincoln Ashida was correct when he said the County Council’s budget amendment setting aside $5.6 million in a special county council expense account was legal.  Ashida…
