Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Hilo Fisherman

The Coast Guard has suspended the multi-day search for overdue Big Island fisherman Mitchell Wailani at 10:12 p.m Monday night.  Wailani left on a  fishing trip on July 5 and has not been in contact with family or friends since Thursday evening. The 79-year-old resident was reported overdue just after 4 p.m. Saturday.  A Hawaii County Fire Department helicopter spotted and confirmed Wailani’s 24 foot fishing boat aground with no one aboard near Papaikou on Saturday evening. Boat/Trailer Blessing Wednesday at Kailua Fire Station

The Daniel Sayre Memorial Foundation has refurbished a Radon Boat and Trailer for Hawaii County Fire Department’s Kailua-Kona station.  Kumu Ulalia Berman will bless the boat and trailer on Wednesday, February 16 at 10:45 at Kailua Station on Palani Road just above Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, and the public is invited. The Sayre Foundation is a project of Frank Sayre and Laura Mallery Sayre.  Their 25-year-old son Danny was killed in a fall at Polulu Valley in 1997.   Frank and Laura were moved by the heroism of the fire/rescue teams that first tried to rescue Danny,…
