Kurtistown Fire Destroys Dwelling Wednesday Night

Wednesday evening, firefighters were called to a blaze around 7:15 p.m. on Kea Road  in Hawaiian Acres Subdivision in Kurtistown. Firefighters found a 900 square foot single family dwelling fully engulfed in flames.  The  building was vacant with 3 abandoned vehicles on premises.  A power line de-energized by HELCO personnel. Fire personnel worked on knocking down the fire on the south side of the building, working around to the north.  They brought the fire under control using a tanker and two engines. From Hawaii County Police: Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating a grandfather clock that was removed from a residence off of Road A, in Hawaiian Acres, between September 18, 2011 to October 02, 2011. This grandfather clock is a Klockit-brand, Odyssey Curio Clock, approximately 6-foot-2 in height, made of mahogany, with three-glass shelves below the clock head. From Hawaii County Police: Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section have charged a 68-year-old Hilo man in connection with a gunshot that shattered the window of a passing van Tuesday (March 13, 2012) in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision. At 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Victor Kwock Chung Chun was charged with first-degree reckless endangering, permit to acquire firearms, second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, two counts of first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. From Hawaii Police Department: Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section are investigating a reported shooting that occurred Tuesday, March 13, 2012  in Puna. On Tuesday at about 1:34 pm, Puna patrol officers responded to the Hawaiian Acres subdivision after receiving a report that a 47 year-old Volcano man reported that while he and his family were driving on Road 10, he heard what sounded like a gunshot and something impacting his vehicle.  He discovered that a window on his American made van was shattered and he immediately drove away and called police. Police Arrest Puna Man for Sexual Assault

Big Island police have arrested a 22-year-old Puna man in connection with the 2010 sexual assault of a female hitchhiker. John Tak was taken into custody last Thursday (August 25) without incident at his Puna home. Friday evening (August 26) detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section charged him with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, kidnapping and second-degree theft. Police Seek Help with Puna Alleged Robbery and Assault

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects of an alleged robbery that occurred in Puna. On February 23, 2011 at about 7:49 a.m., police received a report of an assault victim found in a parked car in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision. Police and medics from the Hawaii Fire Department discovered the 37-year-old Mountain View man with apparent injuries. The victim declined treatment for his injuries which were not life threatening.
