From Hawaii Police: Police charged a 20-year-old former Pahoa man for several offenses in connection to a domestic violence incident. Big Dead Whale Off Puna Coast

Hawaii Fire Department personnel say the decomposing carcass of a whale has been spotted off the east side of Hawaii Island. The fire department was alerted by someone on shore Wednesday of something large floating in the water about a mile off the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision. Chopper 1, the Hawaii Fire Department’s Hilo-based helicopter,  flew over and confirmed it was a 40- to 50-foot-long whale carcass.

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have charged a 72-year-old Puna man in connection with a shooting Sunday evening (May 13) at a home in Pana’ewa. Joseph Amormino of Hawaiian Beaches was charged at 3:23 p.m. Tuesday (May 15) with first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, burglary, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, place to keep ammunition, and two counts of place to keep firearms. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have located, arrested and charged 27-year-old Brannon Ramirez of Hawaiian Beaches, who was wanted in connection with a stabbing, a beer bottle incident and a domestic argument in Puna on Friday. Ramirez turned himself in at the Pahoa police station at 5:42 p.m. Saturday (May 12). He was held at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation. At 2:48 p.m. Monday (May 14), detectives charged him with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal property damage and two counts of third-degree assault. His bail was set at $11,000. He…

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have arrested a Puna man for attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred Sunday evening.   The suspect is identified as 72-year-old Joseph Amormino of Hawaiian Beaches.   Hilo Patrol officers responded to a 5:27 p.m. call Sunday of several shots being fired from a residence in Panaewa. Upon arrival officers found the victim, F-55, with gunshot wounds. Investigation reveal that the suspect had shot the victim, and fired at another party within the residence. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating a Puna man wanted in connection with a stabbing Friday morning. The incident began with a domestic dispute at a convenience store on Kahakai Boulevard in Hawaiian Beaches between a 31-year-old Hawaiian Beaches woman and a 27-year-old Hawaiian Beaches man. Hawaii Police Department reports they have arrested a Hawaiian Beaches man for a rape committed in Pennsylvania.  Detectives of the Hawai’i Police Department Hilo Juvenile Aid Section, acting on information obtained from officials from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and the Bristol Township Police Department of Pennsylvania, apprehended the 66-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon (August 2, 2011) .   Albert August Zuest was arrested under the strength of an arrest warrant. HPD- Big Island police have charged a 20-year-old Pahoa man with four crimes for an incident on a Hele-On bus. On Monday (April 25) around 8 p.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a call aboard a Hele-On bus in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision. County Fights Puna Fire Friday Night

Hawaii County Fire Department responded to a five acre grass and brush fire in lower Puna Friday afternoon.  The first alarm came in at 4:56 p.m. and units were on the scene on the old railroad right-of-way between Hawaiian Beaches and Hawaiian Paradise Park  by 5:16 p.m.  The fire was fought using water bucket drops from the County helicopter and by firefighters using hand tools.  Before sunset, the fire was being fanned by trade winds, but the winds died down after sunset. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have located two of the three men being sought in connection with a Puna assault and burglary investigation. Twenty-five-year-old Johnny Leialoha of Kea’au and 22-year-old Jobe Leialoha of Nanawale turned themselves in at the South Hilo police station and were arrested at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday. From Hawaii County Police: Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating two brothers and their father, who are wanted in a Puna assault and burglary investigation. A 30-year-old man was confronted by three acquaintances at his Hawaiian Paradise Park home on March 13. From a Hawaii Police Department Press Release: A 70-year-old Pahoa man died Saturday (January 1) from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle/motorcycle crash at the intersection of Kahakai Boulevard and Aweoweo Street in Hawaiian Beaches. The motorcycle operator was identified as James F. Hurd of a Pahoa address.
