Project Compassion at Denny’s Sunday Afternoon

Sunday, Denny’s Restaurant in Kona is sponsoring Project Compassion from 4:30 to 9 p.m.  During that time, 20% of the proceeds of the restaurant, plus all the tips usually going to servers, will go to Kona Alano Club.    The Kona Alano Club, on Pawai Place in Kona’s Old Industrial Area, is a venue for holding 12-step meetings.  The Alano Club is in the community to provide a safe, welcoming space for those people in recovery from drug abuse alcohol abuse, and any other addictions.  They currently host around 25 meetings a week, with people from…

The Hawaii Police Department will reach new heights September 28 to 30, Friday through Sunday,  to support Special Olympics West Hawaii, a year-round program dedicated to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities improve their quality of life through sports. For Cop On Top, local police officers will spend Friday through Sunday in the air on scaffolding at the Walmart on Henry Street in Kailua-Kona. Police Warn:  Speed Limit on New Road is 35

Hawaii County Police are warning the public they will be enforcing the speed limit on the new Ane Keohokalole, which is set at 35 miles per hour.  The new road opened Saturday, June 23, and goes from the intersection of Palani Road and Henry Street all the way to Hina Lani Street in the Kaloko (Costco) Industrial Area. Three Arrested for a Tuesday Robbery in Kona

Two adults and a juvenile were arrested shortly after a late-night robbery Tuesday (June 5) in Kailua-Kona. Kona patrol officers responded to an 11:30 p.m. report of an assault in the parking lot of Coconut Grove Market Place. They determined that a 27-year-old Kailua-Kona man had been confronted by three young men who reportedly attacked him, threw him to the ground, beat him and took his backpack. Home Health Firm Expanding Staff

Although the economy has been lagging on Hawaii Island and the island continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the state, things are turning around and more island businesses are beginning to hire.   The unemployment rate in the state in recent reports  was  6.4%.  On Hawaii Island, the unemployment rate was 9.4%.  The national unemployment rate for March was 8.2 percent. Henry Street – Palani Road Reopening Thursday

Hawaii County Department of Public Works says the mauka part of Henry Street, at the intersection of Palani Road, will completely reopen on Thursday, April 19.  Vehicles will be able to go mauka on Henry Street and turn either makai or mauka on Palani Road.  They will also be able to drive down Palani Road and again turn on Henry Street, and access stores in the Crossroads Shopping Center area. Henry Street in Kona Remains Closed for Through Traffic

Henry Street in Kona, the street where WalMart and Safeway are, is closed just above Safeway and is slated to remain closed until April 19. The County is working on Henry Street at the Palani Road intersection.  Palani Road is now open in both directions between Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway and Henry Street, and above. Kona Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

From Hawaii Police Department: A 38-year-old Kona man died early Thursday morning (April 12) from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night (April 11) at the intersection of Henry Street and Palani Road in Kailua-Kona. The victim has been identified as Caleb Wolfson of Kailua-Kona. Responding to a 10:22 p.m. call Wednesday, police determined that Wolfson had been operating a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Henry Street when he struck a concrete barrier and was ejected from the bike. Reminder: No Turns To/From Henry Street Starting Today — Sometime

County Public Works has advised as of 9:15 a.m. that Henry Street is STILL open to motorists, and Palani Road Mauka is still closed to motorists.  Spokeswoman Noelani Whittington says the change may take place at the end of day today, that will have Henry Street closed at the intersection of Palani Road and Palani Road mauka open.  She says those two things will happen simultaneously. Henry Street Intersection to Close Tuesday; Other Changes Start Monday

Hawaii County Department of Public Works is planning additional traffic pattern changes in the area of Palani Road and Henry Street. On Monday, April 9, Kamakaeha street at the Palani Road intersection will open.  That’s the road that goes into Makalapua Shopping Center from Palani Road and leads into the Macy’s end of the shopping center.  The mauka-bound lane is scheduled to remain closed on this day. The mauka-bound lanes of Palani Road from Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway and Henry Street, by Kailua Fire Station, remain closed this week as part of the paving and construction work connected with Ane Keohokalole Highway.    Those lanes should be closed until March 23.   Traffic coming makai on Palani must turn down Henry Street; traffic coming up Henry Street must turn right and  continue going mauka on Palani.  No left turns, makai-bound from Henry Street are permitted at Palani.
