Tributes Pour in for Kane

News filtered out early Wednesday  that cultural icon, artist, and south Kona resident Herb Kane had died.   He died at Kaiser Hospital on Oahu, following a fairly long illness that only worsened started February 22.  His wife Deon was by his side. Tributes starting pouring in yesterday from all over the world.   Senator Daniel Akaka, Senator Daniel K. Beloved Icon Herb Kane Dies

Herb Kane has passed away. The beloved Hawaiian cultural expert, historian, artist, sculptor, and waterman passed away Tuesday evening, March 8, at a hospital on Oahu. Kane had been taken seriously ill on February 22, and was airlifted to Oahu. He’s been in the hospital with his wife Deon by his side since then. Herb and Deon lived in rural South Kona.
