Possible Baby Abuse Case in Kealakekua

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have initiated an abuse of a family/household member investigation in connection with an injured infant. At approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday (July 20), Kona patrol officers responded to Kona Community Hospital, where a 3-month-old Kealakekua girl had been admitted for burns reportedly caused by a hot bath. Doctors also found evidence of bone fractures. The baby was later transferred to Kapi?olani Medical Center for Women and Children on Oahu, where she is being treated and is listed in good condition. State DOT Names New Spokesperson

The Hawaii State Department of Transportation has named Caroline Sluyter as its new spokesperson in the wake of the departure of Dan Meisenzahl, who has moved to the University of Hawaii. Sluyter has been a Media Liaison at Honolulu Police Department since 2008.  Prior to that she was with television stations KITV and KHNL.  She has a degree in Journalism from San Diego State University. Her effective date is Wednesday, May 16.

From Hawaii Police Department; Police Chief Harry Kubojiri is happy to announce that Big Island police will soon have another valuable tool in locating missing persons. The Friends of the Missing Child Center of Hawai’i  is graciously donating a scent-discriminating tracking dog to the police department. The male Labrador named Magnum was purchased through a grant that the non-profit organization was able to secure from the Atherton Foundation. From Hawaii Police: Big Island police are cautioning the public about responding to advertisements seeking prospective models. While there obviously are reputable modeling agencies making legitimate recruitments, Hilo detectives have uncovered an unscrupulous and potentially dangerous online effort by an organization that lures unsuspecting women to Oahu under the pretense of offering them careers in modeling while actually having other intentions. Hawaii County Police Department Release: Big Island Police are investigating the death of a 19-month-old girl in Hilo. At about 6:57 p.m. on January 2, South Hilo patrol officers responded to Hilo Medical Center to a report of an unresponsive infant who had been transported there by an adult. The preliminary examination indicated injuries that appeared suspicious in nature. The infant was transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu and was listed in critical condition.
