Aloha Performing Arts Company has completed the casting of its summer production of “School House Rock Live! Innovations School Getting Federal Loan

The Innovations Public Charter School (ICPS) on Hawaii Island will receive a $2.9 million loan from the federal government to add more than 8,000 square feet of classroom space to their Kailua-Kona campus, Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Senator Daniel K. Akaka, and U.S. Representative Mazie Hirono announced today. Some of the loan funds will also be used to build a soccer field, a covered basketball court and to refinance existing debt. So—who were those people along Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway Thursday, in their portable chairs with their clipboards so actively watching traffic?   They were counting cars.  Two groups, at the corner of Nani Kailua Drive and Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, and at the makai intersection of Hualalai Road and Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, were volunteer parents and teachers with Innovations Public Charter School.  Innovations is halfway between those two streets on the mauka side of the highway.  According to director Jennifer Hiro, Innovations plans to expand, and the County requires a manual traffic count before the plans can…

Kailua-Kona Christmas Parade Winners Announced (video)

The 27thAnnual Kailua-Kona Community Christmas Parade Saturday evening went off almost without a hitch.  Some delays at the end of the route caused the parade to slow down, but otherwise, all was good.    Eighty colorful and festive entries went from the Kona Gym and Pool down to Walua Road, past Coconut Grove Marketplace.  Thousands of spectators lined the parade route to watch.  There were more than 1700 people in the parade, along with two miniature horses and a whole lot of dogs, most of which wore their best holiday outfits.  The weather was fully…
