The National Weather Service office in Honoulu in coordination with the State Climate Extremes Committee has confirmed that a new state hail size record was set during the early morning hours of March 9, 2012. It was on that Friday morning that a supercell thunderstorm parked itself over Windward Oahu and produced large hail that fell into both Kaneohe and Kailua.
