Fourth Hike Against Hunger Starts November 3

Will Zucker is hiking against hunger.   Zucker, sales manager at Mahalo Broadcasting (LAVA 105.3fm/KKOA 107.7 fm/KHNU 620 am), will walk the 126 miles  from Hilo up the Hamakua Coast, through Waimea and Waikoloa to Kona, to raise awareness of the need for donations to Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank.   Zucker says his goal for this year’s Hike Against Hunger is 110,000 pounds of food, or the equivalent, donated at KTA stores around the island during his hike.  But he says he really hopes to get to 150,000.  In his 2011 Hike Against…

As part of the grand opening celebration taking place Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, 2012, for its new Kailua-Kona store, Pier 1 Imports has announced it will provide a free room makeover for the Child & Family Service’s West Hawaii Domestic Abuse Shelter. The 24-hour facility provides emergency shelter, food, transportation and counseling for abused partners and their children.   More than $5,000 in Pier 1 Imports furniture and home accessories is being donated to enhance the West Hawaii Domestic Abuse Shelter’s common areas. Pier 1 Imports at the Kona Coast Shopping Center opened Friday with a crowd of more than 100 for the 9:30 a.m blessing.  By noon, more than 1,000 shoppers had crowded into the store.  Many left with bags full of merchandise. The Kona store is the fifth in Hawaii.  On Thursday, store manager Jenna Criswell and Jennifer Engstrom from the Ft. Pier 1 Imports will open its fifth Hawaii store, the first on Hawaii Island, in Kona on Friday.  The blessing is at 9:30 a.m., with the store opening that day at 10 a.m.  The public is invited to come join in for the blessing and the opening.   The store is in the old Ross location at 74-5586 Palani Road at the Kona Coast Shopping Center and will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22. Kona is about to get a new store.  Pier 1 Imports, Inc., is opening its first Hawaii Island store in the Kona Coast Shopping Center, which is on Palani Road just makai of Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway.  It’s the same shopping area where the KTA is located.    The current plan is to  hire people now, and open the store in June.  Sources connected with Pier 1 say the opening will likely be during the last week in June.   Pier 1 Imports Inc. is a Fort Worth, Texas based retailer specializing in imported home furnishings and…
