From Hawaii County Police: Big Island police are investigating the robbery of a California man Monday night (October 15) in Kona. At 10:35 p.m., Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery in the rear parking lot of Ali’i Sunset Plaza, which is located between Kuakini Highway and Ali’i Drive in Kailua-Kona. A 50-year-old Los Angeles man reported that he walked in the direction of a group of males at the rear of the plaza, where he was attacked by two of them. Keiki Triathlon Coming October 20

Children 7 to 14 years old are invited to enter the Keiki Triathlon to be held Saturday, October 20, at the Kona Community Aquatic Center and Maka’eo Park in Kailua-Kona. Entry forms will be accepted through Friday, October 12. The triathlon will start at 8:30 a.m. on October 20. A link to the entry form is available at hawaiicounty.gov under the Department of Parks and Recreation’s October events. The Ironman Foundation® Community Fund will give $128,000 in grant funding to non-profit groups on Hawai`i Island during the 2012 Ironman race season. Over the years, The Ironman Foundation has provided more than $800,000 to local non-profit groups and charitable initiatives on the Island of Hawai`it. The Kona Community Aquatic Center will be closed Monday and Tuesday, October 1 and 2,  so a necessary inspection may be conducted. The inspection is intended  to ensure peak operating efficiency, the inspection is expected to be completed in time for the Department of Parks and Recreation to reopen the swimming pool as scheduled at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, October 3.  The reopening comes at a good time, just ten days before Ironman Triathlon.  Many of the athletes use the Kona pool to practice. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are seeking witnesses to a robbery Tuesday night (September 18) in West Hawai?i. Kona patrol officers responded to a 7:45 p.m. report of a robbery in a parking lot below Kona Community Hospital and learned that a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman had been sitting in a parked Gold Mazda sedan when a male reportedly approached her and pointed what appeared to be a firearm at her. From Hawaii Police Department: An autopsy has determined that  49-year-old Barry Bokmej of Kawaihae died from cardiac arrest. On June 4, Bokmej was found unresponsive on a roof he had been pressure-washing. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The State hospital system is moving to the next generation of patient care by implementing a new medical records system statewide.. Around 100 medical, hospital, and information technology professionals will spend a month at Kona Community Hospital starting next Monday to field test the new system. From Hawaii Police Department: A 19-year-old Waikoloa man died Tuesday (August 7) from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Queen Ka?ahumanu Highway 200 feet south of Kaiminani Drive on July 30 has been identified as Wyland K.B. Damaso of Waikoloa. From Hawaii Police Department: A 39-year-old Kurtistown man died Thursday (August 2) from injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 11 midway between the 48- and 49-mile markers. Responding to a 12:43 a.m. call, Ka’u patrol officers determined that the victim was operating a 1987 Ford sedan and traveling southbound on Highway 11 when he ran off the left side of the road, lost control and overturned. Japanese Visitor Drowns in Kona

From Hawaii Police Department: A Japanese visitor apparently drowned Monday (July 30) in Kailua-Kona. At 11 a.m. Monday, Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a possible drowning in waters in front of the Royal Kona Resort,  at 75-5852 Ali’i Drive in Kailua-Kona.  Arriving officers learned that resort personnel and bystanders had pulled an unconscious male snorkeler from the water and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Officers assisted with CPR until Fire Department personnel arrived. The 60-year-old victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
