Lions Club of Kona Builds Benches for Local Schools and Parks

Members of the Lions Club of Kona worked together on a civic improvement project on Saturday, October 13.  More than 15 volunteers  worked together to build and paint five wooden picnic tables and twelve concrete benches.   All benches and picnic tables will be donated to schools and parks in West Hawaii, including Kona Pacific Public Charter School in Kealakekua.   Schools, parks and non-profit organizations interested in receiving a donated bench or picnic table can call Lion Glenn Uchimura at (808) 895-8564 or guch51@hawaii.rr.com.   The Lions Club of Kona has roughly 65 members…

The West Hawaii Lions Club consisting of the Hamakua, Waimea, Waikoloa, Kohala, Kaloko Branch, Kailua Kona, and Lions Club of Kona will be holding a charity walk- Walk for Vision and Hearing” to benefit the Hawaii Lions Foundation.   The Hawaii Lions Foundation, is the non-profit arm of Hawaii Lions. One of their programs, includes the “Uninsured/Underinsured” hearing and vision program for Hawaii school children. One of the traditions around Easter weekend is the Easter egg hunt.  The first on the island was at Waikoloa last Saturday, which had keiki hunting for 12,000 eggs in the park. Lions Looking for Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids

Lions Club members in both Kona and Hilo will collect used prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses,  and hearing aids, which they refurbish and give to those who need them in developing countries.   On Saturday, January 28, they will be at Walmart in Kona and Walmart in Hilo from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.  This is part of a statewide collection project by the Lions Clubs.

Lions Clubs Update Vision Van Schedule

The Lions Clubs of the Big Island have joined with the Project Vision team to bring the Vision Van to Hawaii Island.   It has been here on the island since August 26, and the Lions Clubs have updated the schedule to include additional stops.  It will be here on the island through September 18. Vision Van Offering Free Eye Exams on Hawaii Island

The Retina Institute of Hawaii is joining with the Hawaii Island Lions Clubs to help Hawaii Island residents get their vision screened.   Young Brothers has, at no charge, shipped the Project Vision Van from Oahu to Hawaii Island.  It’s a 35 foot mobile opthalmologist office.  The van offers screenings to detect cataracts, glaucoma, retina disease, even diabetes. The van will be here on Hawaii Island offering screenings from August 26 through September 18, with Lions Clubs members specially trained to assist in the process.
