From Hawaii County Parks and Recreation: Mayor Billy Kenoi will join other dignitaries in welcoming the public back to an improved and expanded Gilbert Carvalho Park during a ceremony set for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12. The Hilo facility has undergone upgrades costing approximately $890,000 since it was closed for renovation Sept. 12, 2011. Improvements include remodeling the gymnasium restrooms, new paved walking paths that meet federal accessibility mandates, and installation of new bleachers.
