Pa’auilo Slaughterhouse Project Starts

The County of Hawai’i held a blessing Tuesday morning, October 16, to commence $4.15 million worth of improvements to the State-owned slaughterhouse in Pa’auilo. Funds for the improvements were appropriated by the State Legislature and released by the Governor directly to the County of Hawai‘i to implement improvements that will help secure the future of Hawai‘i Island’s grass-fed beef industry.   “If the rancher cannot ranch and the farmer cannot farm, we’re all in trouble. Pa’auilo Slaughterhouse Upgrade Starts Tuesday

The Pa’auilo Slaughterhouse is about to get a facelift in a step forward for Hawaii Island’s agriculture sector.   This Tuesday, October 16, the County of Hawai’i will break ground for $4.15 million worth of improvements to the State owned slaughterhouse.  The event will take place at the slaughterhouse this Tuesday, October 16 at 10:00 a.m.   The improvements have been long asked-for by Hawaii Island cattlemen and ranchers.   Funds for the improvements were appropriated by the State Legislature and released by the Governor directly to the County of Hawaii to implement improvements that will help…

The 2012 Ironman(r) World Championship presented by myList is set to take place Saturday, October 13. The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), the state’s tourism agency, in partnership with the National Football League (NFL), has announced the designation of a Pro Bowl Committee comprised of Hawaii business and community members. An estimated 150 people (including a few dozen Ka‘u High students) participated in the ground blessing for the Kau District Gym & Shelter Wednesday morning on the school campus. The 43,000 square foot gymnasium and multi-purpose facility will be situated upon approximately five acres of the Ka‘u High and Pahala Elementary School campus. Health issues related to the production of geothermal energy are a concern for many island residents. Funds to conduct health studies are available through the Geothermal Asset Fund, which is overseen by the Windward Planning Commission.   To help inform good decision making on the use of that fund, the County Department of Research and Development has contracted for an independent joint fact finding study to help lay the groundwork for future geothermal health studies to be conducted in the Puna community.  The purpose of this effort is to collect the existing body of knowledge…

On Wednesday, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the Lalamilo Hawaiian Homes Subdivision in Waimea.   Governor Neil Abercrombie and Mayor Billy Kenoi will be part of the event (following the blessing and groundbreaking for the new Ka’u Gym earlier that morning).  Jobie M. The Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build got underway Wednesday evening with a blessing of all the home sites at Lai Opua, across from Kealakehe High School,  where the five homes will be built in the next ten days.  The families, dozens of volunteers, members of the Board of Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii,  Habitat West Hawaii founder Lorraine Highkin, and lots of dignitaries were on hand for this significant event.  Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii is the only Habitat affiliate in the State to undertake such an ambitious project.
