Japanese Visitor Drowns in Kona

From Hawaii Police Department: A Japanese visitor apparently drowned Monday (July 30) in Kailua-Kona. At 11 a.m. Monday, Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a possible drowning in waters in front of the Royal Kona Resort,  at 75-5852 Ali’i Drive in Kailua-Kona.  Arriving officers learned that resort personnel and bystanders had pulled an unconscious male snorkeler from the water and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Officers assisted with CPR until Fire Department personnel arrived. The 60-year-old victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Brother Sister Duo Arrested for Hilo Burglary

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have charged a Hilo man and woman in connection with a burglary that occurred Friday morning (July 27) in Hilo. Jesse Idebond Sablan, 36, and Dana Sablan, 21, were charged at 11:10 a.m. Friday with one count each of second-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft. Bail was set at $11,000 for Jesse Sablan and at $2,250 for Dana Sablan. Both were being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending their initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (July 30). From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have charged the suspect in the fatal stabbing Sunday morning (July 22) in Hilo. At 5:45 p.m. Monday (July 23), detectives charged 49-year-old Daniel Schuster of Honomu, with second-degree murder, promoting a dangerous drug, and drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $54,000. He remains in the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday afternoon (July 24). Young Hilo Woman Charged with Burglary

From Hawaii Police Department: A 21-year-old Hilo woman is in police custody after being charged with two crimes for a burglary reported last year. Jewelry valued at more than $2,000 was taken from the Alae Street home of a 49-year-old Hilo man on December 5. Police investigation led to the identity of the suspect, Rose Peace, who was arrested Friday (July 20) and charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.
