Fourth Hike Against Hunger Starts November 3

Will Zucker is hiking against hunger.   Zucker, sales manager at Mahalo Broadcasting (LAVA 105.3fm/KKOA 107.7 fm/KHNU 620 am), will walk the 126 miles  from Hilo up the Hamakua Coast, through Waimea and Waikoloa to Kona, to raise awareness of the need for donations to Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank.   Zucker says his goal for this year’s Hike Against Hunger is 110,000 pounds of food, or the equivalent, donated at KTA stores around the island during his hike.  But he says he really hopes to get to 150,000.  In his 2011 Hike Against…

Food Basket Launching 100K Pound Drive

Hawaii Island Food Basket is embarking on its tenth annual Feed A Thon.  Local radio personality Tommy Ching, aka Kahikina will take the lead role in helping collect food and cash for Hawaii Island Food Basket, which is Hawaii Island’s food bank.  They provide food to dozens of nonprofit organizations around the island which help feed those who need it.  According to Food Basket Executive Director Nani Lee, they’re feeding around 1 out of 5 of Hawaii Island’s residents.  They’re distributing around 100,000 pounds of food a month.  And the goal of this year’s drive…

Will Zucker, Sales Director for Mahalo Broadcasting (parent company of LAVA 105.3 fm and KKOA 107.7 fm) will receive a Certificate of Appreciation Wednesday, December 7 at 9 a.m. from Hawaii County Council for his recent successful food drive as part of his Hike For Hunger. Zucker walked 127 miles from Hilo to Kona in November over a seven-day period starting November 5 to raise awareness of the need for island residents to help Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, with donations of food or cash.   He collected 1,094 pounds of food and $11,394.21 in…

Saturday at Keauhou KTA is Final Hike for Hunger Food Collection

Saturday, Will Zucker will walk the last of the 127-mile trek from Hilo to Keauhou, via Waimea, Waikoloa, and Kailua-Kona.  He and other members of the LAVA 105.3 fm and KKOA radio teams will collect food and cash or check donations for The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s Food Bank.    Jeri Gertz of Hilo’s girl singing group, Harmony on Tap, will join the effort around 11 a.m. and will share a song she wrote for the occasion.
