Since opening its doors in 2005, the West Hawaii Community Health Center has made quality, comprehensive and integrated health services accessible to all, regardless of the ability to pay. Recognizing this deep commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals, the Bank of Hawaii Foundation honored West Hawaii Community Health Center as a 2012 Bank of Hawaii Monty Richards Hawaii Island Community Award recipient. From Hawaii County Police: During the week of September 24, 2012, through September 30, 2012, Big Island police arrested 37 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21. So far this year, there have been 1,062 DUI arrests compared with 1,096 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.1 percent. Kapolei Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash in Kohala

From Hawaii Police Department: A 76-year-old Kapolei man died Friday (September 14) from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday (August 29) on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) at the 18-mile marker in the North Kohala District. The man was identified as Calvin B.T. Hoo, of a Kapolei address. North Hawaii Drug Free Group Needs $30K by September 30

North Hawaii will lose $125,000 in federal funds unless $30,000 needed for matching operational funding can be secured by the end of the month, according to North Hawaii Drug-Free Coalition (NHDFC), a project of Five Mountains Hawaii.   This tenth and final year grant is scheduled to begin on September 30.  NHDFC was recently notified that Five Mountains Hawaii was not able to secure sufficient funds needed to continue operations through the entire grant cycle, required by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health  Services Administration (SAMHSA). “It would be such a shame to have it all…
