Ka’iminani Drive Construction Starts Next Week, to Last One Year

Hawaii County Department of Public Works says construction on Ka`iminani Drive in North Kona is scheduled to begin the week of October 1.  Improvements will begin just below the intersection at Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) for approximately one mile ending near Ahiahi Street.  Ka’iminani Drive intersects with Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway about a half mile south of the Kona Airport.   Improvements will focus on roadway reconstruction and drainage improvements that include six-foot wide shoulders, drainage structures and swales, and driveway tie-ins on Ka`iminani to prevent a “drop-off” between the reconstructed pavement and the existing driveways,…

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting an informational meeting to talk about the Kealakehe Regional Park Master Plan on Thursday, September 27, at 6 p.m.  The meeting will be at West Hawaii Civic Center, at the intersection of Kealakehe Parkway and Ane Keohokalole Highway, Building G, the Community Meeting Hale. Police and Mayor Pledge Task Force, Support to End Burglaries

Around 200 people packed Konawaena High School Cafeteria Tuesday evening to hear from police about how they’re addressing a spike in burglaries and auto thefts in South Kona.  Mayor Billy Kenoi kicked the session off, pledging the support of the police department and the administration to solve the crimes.  Deputy Managing Diretor Wally Lau and Executive Assistant Bobby Command were on hand to facilitate.  Police talked to describe the burglaries, identify the suspects, and pledge their support with a 20-person task force.  Police on hand included Assistant Chief Paul Kealoha, Major James O’Connor, Captain Chad…

Police Seeking Witnesses to July 13 Car/Motorcycle Crash

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are looking for witnesses to a fatal motor vehicle/motorcycle crash on July 13 on Route 190 in the area of the 17-mile marker in North Kona. Forty-one-year-old Randall C. Guadiz of a Waikoloa died two days after the crash. Responding to a 10:38 p.m. call on July 13, Kona patrol officers determined that Guadiz was operating a 1998 Honda motorcycle and traveling north on Route 190 when he overtook a vehicle in a no-passing zone and sideswiped a 2012 Toyota four-door sedan traveling south and being operated by…

HELCO Pole Replacement Coming to Keauhou Thursday

The County of Hawaii Public Works Department says HELCO is replacing a utility pole in North Kona on Mamalahoa Highway near mile marker 1 in Keauhou mauka, on Thursday, August 30.   One lane will be closed during the replacement work.  Aloha Security will direct traffic between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.   The work is planned to be complete within one day.   For additional information, please contact HELCO at 327-0558

Police ID Waikoloa Man Killed in Sunday Motorcycle Crash

From Hawaii Police Department: A 41-year-old Waikoloa man died Sunday (July 15) from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle/motorcycle crash Friday (July 13) on Route 190 in the area of the 17-mile marker in North Kona.
