Bay Clinic Announces Hours Changes

Fourth Surf Film Fest Comes to Pahoa

The Fourth Annual Pahoa Surf Film Festival is Saturday, February 4 at Akebono Theater in Pahoa.  Akebono Theater is one of Hawaii’s oldest theaters,  built in 1919. Local journalist and Pahoa community volunteer Tiffany Edwards Hunt and Jeff Hunt of Jeff Hunt Surfboards started the Film Festival as a way to attract visitors to historic Pahoa Village.  Pahoa Village has several restaurants available for meals and cocktails before or after the event. Pahoa Village Intersection to Get Ramps

The County Department of Public Works announced  on Tuesday that construction would begin on Wednesday, January 18, on a curb ramp at the intersection of Kauhale Street and Pahoa Village Road in downtown Pahoa to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Ludwig Construction, Inc. was awarded the $16,000 construction contract. The project has 20 consecutive working days; excluding weekends, furlough Friday and is expected to be completed by February 15, 2012. Editor note: the County has not addressed why a private contractor would take furlough Friday holidays and thus extend construction time.

Criminal Charges Against Blogger Dropped

 A Puna man who was arrested after police accused him of obstructing police activities will not be prosecuted.   Damon Tucker and his attorney, Gerard Lee Loy, will hold a press conference today at 2 p.m. on the steps of the Hawaii County Courthouse to talk about the event. Tucker was arrested August 6 just after 2 a.m. outside Pahoa Village Club.  Police said Tucker interfered with police actions, and county prosecutors filed a misdemeanor obstruction of government charge against the 41-year-old blogger.     The police had been involved with breaking up a fight in front of…

From a Hawaii Police Department Press Release: The public is invited to the grand opening of the new Pahoa police station on Thursday, February 17. The new station, located just north of Pahoa town on Highway 130, will replace a converted kit house in P?hoa town that functions as a police substation.
