There was a candidate forum for the County Council candidates from Districts 6 (Volcano through South Kona), District 7 (Kainaliu through Kailua Village), and District 8 (North Kona) Monday evening at Kealakehe High.  Candidates for District 6 included Maile David, incumbent Brenda Ford, Lee McIntosh, and Bradley Westervelt.  From District 7, the lone candidate on the ballot is Dru Mamo Kanuha.  For District 8, the two candidates are Karen Eoff and Charles Guccione. State Senate Kona Candidates Share Views in Tuesday Forum

Candidates for the State Senate from Kona gave their views on a variety of subjects at Tuesday night’s League of Women Voters forum at Hualalai Academy.   Running to retain his seat for District 3 (Ka’u into North Kona), Democrat incumbent Senator Josh Green focused on his work in the last eight years, including focusing on health care by helping establish local community boards for Kona Community Hospital and Hilo Medical Center.  Green is a physician who works part-time at Kohala Hospital’s emergency room.   There are two Republicans running in the August 11 Primary,…

Chocolate Fest Coming in June

The Big Island Chocolate Festival is Friday, June 8 at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. Executive Chef James Babian and Pastry Chef Linda Rodriguez of Four Seasons are leading a selection of hand-picked pastry chefs, confectioners and chocolatiers to offer an evening of chocolate decadence and savory bites. Also on tap are celebrity chef demonstrations and an educational cacao presentation from 10 a.m-3 p.m. above the resort’s Pahui’a oceanfront restaurant.
