Henry Street Intersection to Close Tuesday; Other Changes Start Monday

Hawaii County Department of Public Works is planning additional traffic pattern changes in the area of Palani Road and Henry Street. On Monday, April 9, Kamakaeha street at the Palani Road intersection will open.  That’s the road that goes into Makalapua Shopping Center from Palani Road and leads into the Macy’s end of the shopping center.  The mauka-bound lane is scheduled to remain closed on this day. On Tuesday, April 10, the County will reopen Palani Street mauka bound from Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, so both mauka and makai lanes will be open.  But the intersection…

Public Works Plans Lane Closures on Ali’i Drive, Palani Road

Press Release from Hawaii County Public Works: Bridgework will close one lane on Ali’i Drive — Preparation to install a post and beam underneath Ali’i Drive bridge in North Kona has been underway for several weeks.  The bridge is adjacent to Kona Tiki.  The Highway Maintenance division will work from the southbound lane of bridge  Tuesday, December 13 and Wednesday, December 14; leaving only the northbound lane open to travel.  Public Works estimates the one lane closure between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   Palani Rd one lane closure– Nan Construction Inc.,…

Ali’i Drive Traffic Restricted Sunday for Kona Marathon

The Kona Marathon, with marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K races is Sunday morning, June 26.  The start and finish lines are at Outrigger Keauhou Beach Hotel on Ali’i Drive in Keauhou, next to Kahalu’u Beach.  The races start from 5:30 a.m. until 6:50 a.m.  Much of Sunday morning, traffic on Ali’i Drive will be restricted.  The official road closure list is below, but experience says that early Sunday, motorists should avoid Ali’i Drive from the Outrigger into Kailua town if possible as 1500 runners and walkers will be crowding the road.  Those wishing to…

Henry Street Closed at Palani Starting Monday

Drivers be warned:  Henry Street in Kailua-Kona will be open, but starting tomorrow, the intersection at Palani Road will be closed.  Drivers who want to do business on Henry Street (Safeway, Starbucks, WalMart, etc.) must enter Henry Street from the makai direction, from Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway.   Those driving up Palani Road will not be able to turn right.  And those going up Henry will not be able to turn in either direction on Palani Road.  The closure is expected to last from Monday, June 20 to July 3, according to County Public Works Public Information…

From Hawaii County Public Works: Hawaiian Electric Light Company crews are installing two utility poles along the southbound lane of Palani Rd above Henry Street on March 29 & 30. Please drive cautiously between the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. This work is in preparation to widen Palani Rd and is part of the offsite improvements for Ane Keohokalole Highway.

New Palani Road Delays Tuesday and Wednesday

From Hawaii County Department of Public Works: Helco crews will be working on Palani Road, mauka of Henry St. intersection, Tuesday (3/1/11) and Wednesday (3/2/11) from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Crews will be stringing conductors and installing equipment in preparation to widen Palani Rd. Motorists should plan for alternate lane closure.
