Kaiser to Break Ground This Year for New Kona Clinic

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has announced plans to construct a 30-exam room medical office building in Honokohau, North Kona. The project is expected to break ground by late 2012 and be complete by early 2014.   This new state-of-the-art facility will replace the existing Kaiser Permanente clinic in Kailua-Kona.  “We have a lot of members in the West Hawaii area,” said Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Thomas Risse.  “This new facility will improve access for our current patients and provide capacity to serve additional people seeking top-quality health care with Kaiser Permanente.”   Kaiser Permanente…

Convoys from Kawaihae to PTA Through Sunday

Oahu-based military units will convoy from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa Training Area today through Sunday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.. The convoys will travel via Kawaihae Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway, Waikoloa Road, Mamalahoa Highway and Saddle Road. The convoys will not have Hawaii Police Department escorts but will have escort vehicles front and rear. Motorists are advised to be alert and drive with care. Oahu-based military units will convoy from Pohakuloa Training Area to Kawaihae Harbor on Sunday and Monday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. via Saddle Road, Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kawaihae Road. The convoys will not have Hawaii Police Department escorts. The first and last vehicle in each convoy will have rotating lights on their roofs, as well as convoy warning signs. Woman Killed in Ka’iminani Drive Accident

From Hawaii Police Department: A 42-year-old Holualoa woman died Thursday, February 9,  from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Kaiminani Drive, 150 feet west of Ane Keoholeola Highway in Kailua-Kona. The woman was identified as Sheila Goto. Responding to a 9:33 a.m. call, Kona patrol officers determined that a 42-year-old Kea’au man had been operating a 2000 Ford crane truck from Leleiwi Electric and traveling west on Kaiminani Drive when the boom of the truck struck a large cable going across the roadway. The State Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting for the Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening project on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, 6:00 pm-7:30pm at Kealakehe High School Cafeteria. The second phase of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening project consists of 5.2 miles of widening the existing two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway from Kealakehe Parkway to the Kona International Airport. Drivers be warned:  Henry Street in Kailua-Kona will be open, but starting tomorrow, the intersection at Palani Road will be closed.  Drivers who want to do business on Henry Street (Safeway, Starbucks, WalMart, etc.) must enter Henry Street from the makai direction, from Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway.   Those driving up Palani Road will not be able to turn right.  And those going up Henry will not be able to turn in either direction on Palani Road.  The closure is expected to last from Monday, June 20 to July 3, according to County Public Works Public Information…

A 23-year-old Captain Cook man died Monday (December 20) at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle/moped crash which occurred on Saturday (December 18) at the intersection of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kealakehe Parkway. The victim was identified as Kainoa Austin Abril of a Captain Cook address. Three West Hawaii motorists were seriously injured today (Friday, November 19, 2010) in a two-vehicle crash on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway in the area of Makalawena near the 90-mile marker in North Kona.  Responding to a 9:36 am call, Hawaii Police Department officers determined that Shakti Stream, a 27-year-old Kona woman was driving north in a 1997 Toyota SUV when she crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 1996 Saab sedan that was headed south.  Stream and her passenger, Colton J.
