PBS to Reshow State Spelling Bee

PBS Hawaii will rebroadcast the Hawaii State Spelling Bee.  The original competition was last Saturday, March 24, and took place at the PBS Hawaii studios on Oahu.  PBS Hawaii aired it live.    The rebroadcast of the 2012 aio Hawaii State Spelling Bee will be Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m. Fourteen middle school spellers from around the state took part in the event.  They were the winners of competitions among 80 schools statewide. Taggart is the C-H-A-M-P !!

Hawaii Island spellers took the two top spots in the Hawaii State Spelling Bee Saturday night.   Big Island boy Taggart Nakamoto, a sixth grader at Konawaena Middle School, took first.  He will go to Washington, D. C. in May to represent the state at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  Taggart was one of fourteen students from throughout the state to compete in Saturday night’s state finals, which were held and broadcast live at the PBS Hawaii Television studios on Oahu.   Taggart’s final round was technically  Round 16.   In Round 15, all the other  contestants…

Two Big Island Spellers in State Bee Saturday

Two Hawaii Island students will take part in the State Spelling Bee this Saturday, March 24.  The competition will air statewide on PBS Hawaii (Channel 10 on most Hawaii Island televisions) at 7 p.m. Roland Afaga, Jr., is a 6th grader Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School.  Taggart Nakamoto is in 6th grade at Konawaena Middle School.  Some may recall that Taggart’s older brother, Talmadge Nakamoto, was a previous participant as Hawaii Island’s champion and won the State Bee,  going on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.
