NORAD Tracking Santa in Worldwide Skies

The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, has been tracking Santa Claus’s Christmas Eve route since 1955, and today is no exception.    NORAD is a joint United States-Canada command, and is located at Peterson Air Force Base near Denver, Colorado. As of 6 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time, Santa was beginning his visits to Cuba.  He works extremely fast and within minutes he’ll be on his way to Charleston, South Caroline.   He has already delivered more than one billion gifts.  He is expected to arrive in Hawaii, as scheduled, as his final stop later tonight.  …

West Hawaii Celebrates Paskong Pinoy

A few hundred of Hawaii Island’s Filipinos, or Filipinos at heart, enjoyed Paskong Pinoy, or A Filipino Christmas, Saturday at West Hawaii Civic Center. Local style performances ranging from traditional Phlippine folk dances with traditional costumes to Filipino pop songs to keiki with ukulele singing Mele Kalikimaka kept the crowd entertained. There was a Philippine cultural exhibit that also displayed traditional Filipino costumes. And there was even a Filipino Santa Claus! Holiday Season Officially Underway After Hilo’s Christmas Parade Saturday

Hilo’s Christmas Parade Saturday night was a rousing success, with people lining the parade route through downtown to enjoy the event.   In a nod to the season, the weather in Hilo was perfect for a parade, with no snow, rain, or hail—it was dry. This year’s parade had 31 entries, including the Hilo Little League World Champions.  There were also dogs, the Mayor, gymnasts, and Miss Aloha Hula and Miss Kona Coffee.  Entries were festive and lighted, and most entries distributed candy to those watching—keiki and adults. Hawaii All-State Band Rocks Macy’s Parade

The Hawaii All-State Band was magnificent in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which attracted around 3 1/2 million spectators live, plus 50 million for the NBC television broadcast.  The parade follows a 2 1/2-mile route from Central Park West to Herald Square in front of Macy’s main New York store.  The weather was designed for the parade–brightly sunny, with temperatures at the start of the parade around 37 degrees. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Has Hawaii Connections

The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is coming up Thursday, November 24, 2011 — Thanksgiving Day.   This is the 85th year for the parade.   The parade  will feature 15 giant character balloons; 44 novelty/ornament balloons, balloonicles and balloonheads; 27 floats; 1,600 cheerleaders, dancers and performance group members; 800 clowns; 11 marching bands; a host of celebrity performers, and the one-and-only Santa Claus. The parade starts at 9 a.m. and goes til noon in New York’s Manhattan, following a six mile route from Central Park West down past the original Macy’s store at Herald Square. …
