Police Seeking Witnesses to July 13 Car/Motorcycle Crash

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are looking for witnesses to a fatal motor vehicle/motorcycle crash on July 13 on Route 190 in the area of the 17-mile marker in North Kona. Forty-one-year-old Randall C. Guadiz of a Waikoloa died two days after the crash. Responding to a 10:38 p.m. call on July 13, Kona patrol officers determined that Guadiz was operating a 1998 Honda motorcycle and traveling north on Route 190 when he overtook a vehicle in a no-passing zone and sideswiped a 2012 Toyota four-door sedan traveling south and being operated by…

Accidents Lead Cops to Focus on Motorcyclists

From Hawaii Police Department: In light of several recent motorcycle fatalities, Traffic Enforcement Unit officers on the Big Island will focus enforcement efforts on unsafe operation of motorcycles, including equipment violations. According to Sergeant Christopher Gali, who heads the Traffic Enforcement Unit, reckless driving was a factor in three of the four motorcycle fatalities this year. “The purpose of our enforcement effort is to prevent additional tragedies,” Gali said. Police Remind About Laws at Crossings

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are reminding the public to follow traffic laws at intersections. The Police Department has received complaints that motorists are traveling through intersections or making left and right turns after a traffic signal turns red. One of the complaints is that motorists approaching intersections fail to stop when the light turns yellow and frequently even after it turns red.
