Chere Lyons is East Hawaii Officer of the Month

The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai’i recognized Officer Chere Lyons on Thursday (September 27) as “Officer of the Month” for September. Lyons, a South Hilo patrol officer, was honored for her quick arrest of a burglary suspect last month. At 7:48 a.m. on August 13, a Pepe’ekeo resident reported that a stranger was attempting to break into his neighbor’s house by removing glass jalousies. Hilo Man Drowns After Rescuing Son

From Hawaii Police Department: A 34-year-old Hilo man who nearly drowned over the weekend died Thursday (September 27) from the incident. Chris Broussard of Hilo and his 9-year-old son were snorkeling in a tide pool in the Brown’s Beach area Sunday morning (September 23) when a large wave swept the boy out of the tide pool. Bruoussard jumped into the ocean in an attempt to save the boy. By the time bystanders were able to pull the child to safety, Broussard was floating face down in the water. Roylen Valera is East Hawaii Officer of the Month

From Hawaii Police Department: The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawai’i recognized Officer Roylen Valera on Thursday (September 22) as “Officer of the Month” for September. Valera, a patrol officer in the Hamakua District, was honored for his extensive involvement in community activities in the Hamakua and North Hilo Districts. His activities include the Honoka’a Relay for Life, The Laupahoehoe Point Drug Free Bash and the recent Laupahoehoe Celebrating Families Pool Bash. Police Seek Hilo Robbery Suspect

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island Police are looking for a 19-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery in Hilo the Saturday morning (September 3) at a convenience store in Wai?kea Uka. South Hilo patrol officers responded to a 6:16 a.m. call reporting that three male suspects entered the store and then one of them suspects pulled out a gun, showed it to the clerk and ordered her to open the cash register.
