Golf Tourney to Support Waikoloa Dry Forest Set for November 4

The Waikoloa Dry Forest 2 Person Best Ball Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, November 4 at the Waikoloa Village Golf Club. Check-in starts at 7:00 am and the shotgun start is at 7:30 am. Cost is  $80 per player. The registration deadline is October 26. Cost includes lunch, cart, greens fee, and tournament prizes. The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra will join forces with sponsor Hilton Waikoloa Village on the first weekend in November, to host the orchestra’s Second Annual Concerto Competition at the resort’s Water’s Edge Ballroom. Police Charge Waikoloa Woman with Identity Theft from 91-Year-Old

From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police have charged a 55-year-old Waikoloa woman with identity theft and seven other offenses in connection with the theft of various items from a 91-year-old family member. South Kohala patrol officers responded to Waikoloa Village Monday (April 16) to a report that the suspect had stolen jewelry and cash from a 91-year-old woman who was visiting from California. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, she allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer by striking him in the chest. The officer did not require medical attention. Earthquake Near Waikoloa Village Monday

The United States Geological Survey has reported a magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck near Waikoloa Village Monday around 12:24 p.m.  The quake was 26 kilometers, around 16 miles, deep.  There were no reports of damage.

Firefighters Fight Waikoloa Brush Fire Saturday, Remain on Scene

Fire Department’s official summary of the fire, issued Sunday afternoon, February 19: Hawaii Fire Department says around 50 people ended up fighting the Waikoloa brush fire on Saturday, February 18–including their personnel plus volunteer fire personnel and military firefighters from Pohakuloa Training Area.    The fire was in wildland below Kekumu apartments and Paniolo Estates.  The terrain was challenging and winds unstable, causing the fire to jump an existing fire break, moving out of the reach of ground personnel.  Two Hawaii Fire Department helicopters with buckets dropped water on the fire, enabling the department to get…

Food Basket Launching 100K Pound Drive

Hawaii Island Food Basket is embarking on its tenth annual Feed A Thon.  Local radio personality Tommy Ching, aka Kahikina will take the lead role in helping collect food and cash for Hawaii Island Food Basket, which is Hawaii Island’s food bank.  They provide food to dozens of nonprofit organizations around the island which help feed those who need it.  According to Food Basket Executive Director Nani Lee, they’re feeding around 1 out of 5 of Hawaii Island’s residents.  They’re distributing around 100,000 pounds of food a month.  And the goal of this year’s drive…

Waikoloa Village House Fire Flares Up

Hawaii Fire Department returned Monday night to the scene of a Sunday fire in Waikoloa Village when the house again erupted in flames.  The house on Makuahine had been almost completely destroyed in a fire on Christmas Day that spread quickly because of high and gusty winds all day Sunday.     When firefighters returned to the home Monday evening just after 9:20 p.m., flames were coming from under the eaves in the Southwest corner of the house.  Firefighters extinguished the flare up.

Final Parades Plus Light and Music Today!

The three final Christmas parades this season are today, Saturday, around Hawai’i Island.  Motorists are advised that roads in the area of all three parades will be closed from before parade time until the parade has completed. Island Christmas Parades Continue This Weekend and Next

With the first Christmas parade  on the island behind us,  in Hilo last Saturday, there are several more parades coming up. On Saturday, December 3, the Pahoa Christmas Parade with the theme “Jingle Bell Rock” kicks off at 9:30, with participants lining up downtown at 9.  The Grand Marshal is Special Olympian Louie Perry III.  Perry won three gold medals at the World Special Olympics in Athens, Greece, last summer.    Parade entries include the always colorful Hiccup Circus, the Paradise Roller Girls Roller Derby Team,  the Hare Krishna, and the Hawaii County Band.   The parade…
