County Moves Realtors from Old Airport to Hale Halawai

The West Hawai‘i Association of Realtors’ Affiliate Night will be held Thursday, September 20, at the Hale Halawai Pavilion on Ali‘i Drive in Kailua-Kona.   The private mahalo party, set for 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., was originally scheduled to be held in the Events Pavilion at Maka‘eo Park, also known as Old Airport Park. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are seeking witnesses to a robbery Tuesday night (September 18) in West Hawai?i. Kona patrol officers responded to a 7:45 p.m. report of a robbery in a parking lot below Kona Community Hospital and learned that a 22-year-old Captain Cook woman had been sitting in a parked Gold Mazda sedan when a male reportedly approached her and pointed what appeared to be a firearm at her. From Hawaii Police Department: A 31-year-old Kailua-Kona man wanted for allegedly escaping from a correctional facility was arrested in West Hawai’i. Ryan Jeffries-Hamar was located and arrested Saturday (September 8) in Kealakekua near the intersection of Highway 11 and Halekii Street. He is suspected of escaping from Hale Nani off Route 11 Tuesday afternoon (August 14). Jeffries-Hamar also had an outstanding arrest warrant for violation of terms and conditions of furlough that he was arrested for. From Hawaii Island Police: Big Island police are renewing their request for the public’s help in identifying a person whose partially decomposed body was found in a West Hawai’i public park on July 19. Police investigation has turned up evidence that the decedent may have been a middle-aged homeless Caucasian man between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-11 who frequented the Kainaliu, Kealakekua and Honalo areas. Governor Neil Abercrombie on Wednesday released $7.5 million in bonds for the construction of two key buildings at the new Palamanui College.  The campus is located mauka and just north of Kona International Airport. This, combined with the $9.68 million donated to the university in January of 2012 by Palamanui LLC, a partnership between Hunt Companies Hawai’i and Charles R. Schwab, brings the total funding on hand to close to $17.2 million for West Hawai’i’s first permanent campus. From Hawaii Police Department: Big Island police are warning the public that West Hawai’i has experienced a rash of auto and moped thefts in recent weeks. The auto thieves seem to be targeting Honda sedans, Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks and mopeds, but other vehicles have also been stolen. Since July 1, police have investigated 25 cases of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. Police advice the public to lock vehicles doors, even those parked in a private driveway. The County has set two meetings, one in Hilo, one in Kona, to explain the new driver’s license rules to the public. Federal and State mandates now prohibit the issuance of a driver license or permit to any person who is not legally authorized to be in the United States. From Hawaii Police Department: Thanks to complaints from the public and calls to the Police Department’s Ice/Drug Tip Hotline, a police investigation has led to a raid on a drug distribution operation in West Hawai?i in an area near Kona Palisades. Detectives from the Area II Vice Section served a search warrant Friday (July 6) on a house on Malino Place in the Kona Highlands subdivision, where they recovered 17.2 grams of methamphetamine, .2 grams of crack cocaine, 2.2 grams of heroin and 4 morphine pills.
