Golf Tourney to Support Waikoloa Dry Forest Set for November 4

The Waikoloa Dry Forest 2 Person Best Ball Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, November 4 at the Waikoloa Village Golf Club. Check-in starts at 7:00 am and the shotgun start is at 7:30 am. Cost is  $80 per player. The registration deadline is October 26. Cost includes lunch, cart, greens fee, and tournament prizes. La’aloa Street on Planning Commission Agenda for Thursday

On Thursday, October 18, 2012 the County of Hawai`i Leeward Planning Commission will consider a Special Management Area (SMA) permit application by the County Department of Public Works to the extension of La`aloa Avenue as a two-lane, 60-foot wide collector roadway for approximately 1,900 feet to connect with Kuakini Highway.   The County had considered several alternative designs.   The selected alternative calls for sidewalks and bike lanes.    Peoples Advocacy Trails Hawaii (PATH) has issued a statement saying that geographical challenges will preclude some bicyclists and pedestrians from the effective use of this extension if not…

Lions Club of Kona Builds Benches for Local Schools and Parks

The new Hawaii County (temporary) Elections Administrator, Lehua Iopa, said Wednesday that the first round of absentee ballots should be in the mail Monday, October 15, or shortly thereafter.     The last day to request an absentee ballot, either for this election only or to receive permanent absentee ballots, is October 30. Kenoi, Kim Differ on New Highway, West Hawaii Staff, CDPs

Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi and former Mayor Harry Kim met in a candidate forum Monday evening at Kealakehe High School.  Moderator Sherry Bracken started the questioning by asking Kim to be specific about previous statements that he’s unhappy with the way government is being run. The Kona Elections Office in West Hawaii Civic Center now has a full-time staff person.  Tracy Kaahanui was at the office Tuesday morning, September 25.  Elton Nakakawa, a four-year Elections Office employee who normally works in the Hilo Elections Office, was giving Kaahanui  training in basic Elections procedures.
