A teenager was killed Friday evening after being hit by a semi truck on Highway 19, Hawaii Belt Road, at Pa’auilo Makai Road in Pa’auillo on the Hamakua Coast.
The boy had just gotten off a Hele-On Bus around 5:30 p.m. and was hit by the truck while he was crossing the road. Witnesses said the boy ran into the road into the path of the truck. Hawaii Fire Department fire and medic teams responded. The boy was found without signs of life and was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The boy has not been identified. The accident is under investigation.
