Traffic Changes on Island Start Tonight

There are two major traffic changes coming this weekend.

Starting tonight, Friday, at 6 p.m., Palani Road mauka of Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway will be closed in both directions.  Palani Road has been closed mauka-bound only for construction in connection with modifications caused by the Ane Keohokalole Highway work, and will remain closed until around March 23.  But for 24 hours, from tonight at 6 p.m. until Saturday at 6 p.m., both lanes will be closed.  The State Department of Transportation says the contractor, Nan, Inc., will use a special paving machine to complete much of the paving on both lanes.

Additionally, on Saturday morning, Banyan Drive in HIlo will become one-way only from 8 a.m. until around 8:30 a.m. because of the 15th Annual  Hilo Heart & Stroke Walk & Health Fair.

Traffic on Banyan Drive will be allowed to flow in the Puna, or easterly, direction on Banyan Drive between both ends of Lihiwai Street.

Parking will be allowed only on one side of Banyan Drive to coincide with the one-way traffic pattern.
