Two Car Accident Closes Saddle Road, Starts Fire

A two-car motor vehicle accident closed Saddle Road for around 70 minutes Saturday morning around 10:30 a.m.  When fire and medics arrived on the scene at Mile Marker 50, they found both cars off the road with one car fully engulfed in flames.  The vegetation on the side of the road was also on fire.

The vehicles’ occupants were out of the cars, with no injuries.   Police closed Saddle Road because of smoke blowing across the road and because of the firefighting operations.

Pohakuloa Training Area fire crews assisted Hawaii County Fire Department with fighting the fire.   Both HFD and PTA have stayed on scene to deal with the approximately one-acre fire.  Conditions in the area are extremely dry.
