The University of Hawaii will offer free recycling of electronic waste from October 25 to October 27. Residents may recycle old televisions, computers, and other electronic devices at University of Hawaii at Hilo and at Kealakehe High School from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day.
Additional items that could be recycled include keyboards, monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, wires, cables, cell phones, telephones, and other audio and video equipment. They will not accept batteries, hairdryers, paper, styrafoam, microwaves, or household appliances. There is a complete list of what can and cannot be recycled at these e-waste events at http://www.hawaii.edu/ewaste.
The web site also suggests that if people can donate their used but still-working electronics to another who could use it, that would be a good idea.
